AMBA Community Advisory: US Sanctions on Al Mustafa International University in Qum, Iran

On December 8, 2020, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated A​l-Mustafa International University​ (MIU) as an SDN pursuant to Executive Order 13224 (2001) for supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.’s Qods Force (IRGC-QF). As a result, MIU is now subject to primary and secondary sanctions under the Global Terrorism Sanctions Regulations (GTSR) and the Iranian Financial Sanctions Regulations (IFSR). In addition, individuals and organizations with ties to MIU are now at risk of Specially Designated National and Blocked Person (SDN) designation.
