The American Muslim Bar Association congratulates Nusrat Jahan Choudhury, Legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois and the first Bangladeshi American and first Muslim woman, on her nomination to serve as a federal judge for the Eastern District of New York.

AMBA supports nominees to the federal judiciary who have litigated with integrity, while upholding the values of fairness, equality, and justice for all. We recognize Ms. Choudhury’s professional experience fighting for the rights of marginalized communities, and thus hope her elevation to the bench will provide much needed balance of perspective to our courts. AMBA also recognizes alongside Ms. Choudhury’s nomination, the nomination of civil rights attorneys, public defenders, and women of color, and we hope these nominations continue to advance equity in our justice system and shape our judiciary to better reflect the rich diversity in our society."
